~ CHAPTER 14 ~

I Promise To Change

Wiping tears from her beautiful eyes, Veronica walked away without purpose. She didn’t know Pisa so well to find her hotel soon. Was she also out of her mind like Milano?

Meanwhile, Milano came out of the hotel looking around to find where Veronica went. Where is she?! I won’t let her get away! She is expecting my baby and mustn’t act like this. Seeing her hail a taxi and almost getting in, he rushed to her like a Mustang, not feeling any pain from the sharp stones digging into his feet. Milano ran to Veronica, puffing a little on the way.

“You can’t leave,” Milano ordered, slamming the taxi door shut.

“And you have no rights to order me!” Veronica bawled out, trying to get away from her intolerable demon.

“Yes, Veronica. With knobs on, I can!”

The taxi driver broke their conversation, speaking to them in English. “Signore, Signora can decide for herself what to do. She is an adult.”

“Holy shit! Will you not stay out of our case or shall I count all your ribs?” Milano yelled at him. Noticing the wrathful expression on Milano’s face and understanding that the storm wouldn’t ever subside in him, the taxi driver closed the window and drove away in the other direction. Veronica turned her head to view Milano, but seeing his shabby appearance; she tittered out loud.

“What made you laugh?” Milano’s wrinkles from a smile appeared at the corners of his eyes as he combed his tousled hair.

“You should see yourself,” Veronica continued to giggle. “I can predict why the taxi driver sped away as if rabid dogs were chasing him. He probably thought you had escaped from an insane asylum; in a jean, bare-chested, with tousled hair and barefooted.”

Milano suppressed his chuckle, noting that Veronica was no longer mad at him.

“Honey, let’s go,” he beckoned her, embracing her waist. “We shouldn’t stand here.”

“Honey? What came over you these past few minutes? Were you witched?” Veronica widened her eyes, tittering.

“Perhaps.” Milano snickered back at her. “Did you indeed wish to have an abortion?” His face was stark. Such thought stirred his whole body.

“I was furious at you and was tempted to hurt you,” Veronica murmured, hiding her feelings from the past offense. “But you knew I would come back. I don’t have money to stay at the hotel.”

“Honestly, I thought you wouldn’t. You’re too proud and wouldn’t beg me to take you back.” Milano understood the complicated nature of his goddess. He saw it in her.

“But did you care about the baby when you did that?” He conjectured how to proceed with Veronica to get her in line. Veronica bowed her head guiltily; his words had broken her up. She knew that she acted silly.

“Never mind, my dear. Let’s head back to the hotel.” He reached out his hand to Veronica slowly, fearing that she would run away again. But watching Veronica put her little hand gently in his palm, he released the breath he was holding. Thank
